Assignments: What are submission assignments and how do I post to them?

Quick Answer: Unlike forums, the Submission Assignments will be submitted directly to your teacher.  This is often used for longer writing projects, rough drafts, or final drafts of work.  When you click the submit button you will get a text box to work with just like when you reply in a forum.  However, you only have a certain amount of time to write in that text box before Moodle will time out and you will lose all of your work.  To avoid that situation we recommend that you first do your work in Word or Google Docs and then copy and paste the work over into the Moodle submission box.  After you submit the assignment it will be available for your teacher to grade and give you feedback.  It is important to check back for the feedback your teacher will leave you so that you can incorporate their suggestions in your future work.

Avatar: How do I add/change my avatar/profile picture?

Quick Answer: On the right hand side of your screen you will find various useful areas we refer to as Blocks.  To change your profile picture, or avatar, you can follow this path:

In the Navigation Block -> click My Profile -> click View Profile -> once you see your profile look in the Administration Block -> Edit Profile -> scroll down in the main page to click on User Picture -> You can then drag and drop the file you want to use, or click the Add File (piece of paper with a +) button at the top of the submission box -> click Update Profile at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

Charts: How do I add and format a chart to a forum or assignment?

Quick Answer: When looking at any kind of Moodle submission box, whether for a forum post or a submission assignment, you will have a collection of white buttons at the top of the box to use to format your work.  You can use these buttons to add images, videos, and tables to take your responses to the next level.

To add a table, first you will need to make sure all three rows of buttons are available.  If you only see one row of buttons you can toggle the other two on by clicking the first button in the top row.  You can then find the Insert Table button by looking at the 8th button on the bottom row.  A window will pop-up and allow you to choose the number of columns and rows you want in your table.  Once you click insert your table will appear, though it might look very small.  You can click on each of the cells and type in the information you want.  As you do that the cells will grow to fit the words you add.

How do I make a file?

Finding my grades and checkmarks

Quick Answer: You can find your grades by looking at the Blocks found on the right hand side of the page.  To view your grades you can follow this path:

Look in the Administration Block -> click Grades

Another way to get a different look at your progress is to look at the Complete Report.  To do this you can follow this path:

Look in the Administration Block -> click My Profile Settings -> click Activity Reports -> click Complete Report

Forums: What are forums and how do I post a response/reply to them?

Quick Answer: Unlike submission assignments, Forums are conversations view-able by everyone in a course. The majority of your activities in a course will be in the form of Forums.  This is so you can share your thoughts and ideas with all of your peers and engage them in conversations about those ideas.  Interaction is key to successful Forums, so be sure to ask your peers thoughtful questions and build conversations!

Images: How do I add an image(s) to a forum post/reply or an assignment?

Quick Answer: When looking at any kind of Moodle submission box, whether for a forum post or a submission assignment, you will have a collection of white buttons at the top of the box to use to format your work.  You can use these buttons to add images, videos, and tables to take your responses to the next level.

To add an image you click the 10th button on the top row of the submission box.  If you want to upload an image from your computer, click the Find or Upload an Image button at the top of the pop-up window.  If you want to use an image URL copy and paste the URL in the Image URL field.  For more step by step instructions about uploading vs. using URLs please check out the video link below.

Password: How do I change my password?

Quick Answer: It is highly recommended that you do change your password to something unique that only you know (but can easily remember!). To change your password you can follow these directions:

From the Home screen in the top left hand side navigation click Passwords.  This will open the Password Portal where Joyce can help you change your password. Click Change Password and enter your information. When you have all your information typed in click the Change Password button.

If you have forgotten your password and you need it reset call 608-890-3260 or email academyhelp@wcatyweb.org and we will reset your password for you.

Private Messages: Where do I find and how do I send private messages?

Quick Answer: Messages can be found in a couple ways.  The first way is to check the right hand side of the page for a Message Block and simply clicking Messages.  If there isn’t a Message Block you can still get to your messages.  Look for the Navigation Block and click My Profile.  Options will appear and you can click Messages.

Videos: How do I add/embed a video into an assignment?

Quick Answer: When looking at any kind of Moodle submission box, whether for a forum post or a submission assignment, you will have a collection of white buttons at the top of the box to use to format your work.  You can use these buttons to add images, videos, and tables to take your responses to the next level.

To add a video you can include a hyperlink to the video itself using the 7th button on the top row of the submission box.  People can click on the link to be taken to the video.  Your other option to to embed the video right into your post or submission.  For step by step instructions on how to embed a video please watch the video link below.
